Here is How to Get a Metal Card for the Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited Credit Card

Chase has 2 solid cards that have no annual fee and earns Ultimate Rewards points. These points are non-transferable to airlines or hotel partners but can transfer to another Chase UR card that is able to make transfers. That’s is how the Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited Cards both have immense value and should be added to your arsenal of everyday cards.

These cards don’t come with any of the glamour premium cards have like premium insurances on purchases or no-foreign transaction fees. Both cards are plastic.

What if I told you there is a way to get a metal card for any of these cards?

Here is what you do...

Requirements: You have an existing Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve card that you want to downgrade for no annual fee.

Step 1:

Call or secure message Chase and ask to downgrade one of your Sapphire Cards to Freedom or Freedom Unlimited card.

Step 2:

They will ask if you want to proceed with the change and that your account number will not change.

Step 3:

Your physical card that used to be a Chase Sapphire (Preferred or Reserve) is now whatever card you changed it to. You can continue using it and all charges to the account online will report to the downgraded card.  Since the account number is the same… So is the credit card number.

Ignore the new Expiration and CVV code that is on the new card as the old numbers will work going forward.

Now don’t get confused on which card is which since the card you will be using isn’t really that card you had before anymore and instead is a new card with a different earning category and rate. (If you were able to follow this sentence... you will do just fine)

Now go (or continue to) flash that metal card of yours with style
